In 2018 Cate was a full-time Senior Mediation Adviser in the UN Standby Team of Experts, Mediation Support Unit, Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. Previously she worked for several years on the Myanmar ceasefire and political dialogue process as an adviser within the Nyein Foundation and to armed groups. For 13 years Cate worked for the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue as a Programme Manager and Senior Adviser in Asia.
In 2013, along with Antonia Potter, she established the feminist advisory service Athena Consortium. Cate has worked extensively on addressing gun violence including global standards and gun law reform in countries recovering from war. In recent years she led the Surviving Gun Violence Project. Cate is a member of the Australian Government civilian experts pool, Australia Assists, and holds degrees from the Australian National University and Sydney University (Master of Health Policy).
