The effects of protracted conflict in Syria have been keenly felt in Lebanon, host to over one million Syrian refugees. Tensions between host communities and refugees have increased, with a spate of attacks recorded. Municipalities and civil society at the frontline of efforts to respond must be strengthened in their efforts to prevent violence in their localities.

The Gal/i region has long been a focus for controversy in the Georgian-Abkhaz context. It is the southernmost district of Abkhazia, and highly populated by ethnic Georgians, whose living conditions, identity and rights are contested issues that create an uncertain outlook for the future.

From South Sudan and Central African Republic (CAR) we hear how local groups are leading diverse initiatives to reconcile people previously abducted by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) with host communities. In South Sudan, traditional Azande ceremonies bring people together. In CAR tailoring classes help returnees find their place.
