International Policy

Conflict is difficult and complex, but not unbeatable. We push for evidence-informed international policy and practice to support the path to peace.

In 2016, more countries experienced violent conflict than at any time in nearly 30 years, and this number is on the rise. Too often the international response to armed conflict is short-term and reactive, focused on military or security responses rather than peacebuilding approaches. This can make it harder to find a political solution and prevent future conflict.

We work to ensure that multilateral and government policies are helpful in creating conditions for peace – within the regions where we work, as well as in the UK, EU, Australia and at the UN. There are no easy, quick or one-size-fits-all solutions. To be effective policies need to draw on practical experience and be tailored to context. Generating research and evidence, we improve how decision-makers and peacebuilders around the world are addressing conflict.

    Our policy partners and networks

Our partners and networks are at the heart of what we do. These relationships, often developed over years and even decades, are crucial to making peace possible.
