Andy Carl Executive Director
acarl@c-r.org

Andy co-founded CR in 1995 with David Lord and now heads the organization. He led the development of CR’s programme work in Fiji and Bougainville/PNG and in northern Uganda, Somaliland and Sri Lanka, and established CR’s Accord publication series. Before this he worked for International Alert (London) from 1989-94 as its original programme staff on peace initiatives in Southern Africa, Europe, Liberia, the Philippines, Colombia, Iraqi-Kurdistan and elsewhere. Before that, he was National Coordinator of the Central America Human Rights Committee, UK (1986-89). He has degrees in literature from the University of California at Berkeley (BA) and Trinity College, Dublin (MPhil). Andy represents CR in various national and international policy forums on conflict transformation practice, acts as a resource person for CR’s programmes and develops new areas of work.

Rachel Clogg Caucasus Programme Co-Director

Rachel joined CR full time in July 2001, after working since 1999 as a Caucasus Programme Associate. Prior to this she held the Max Hayward Research Fellowship at St.Antony's College, Oxford (2000-2001) and worked as a lecturer in Russian at the University of North Wales, Bangor. For several years Rachel worked as a part-time volunteer/consultant for local and international organizations in the Caucasus. She has served on Quaker Peace and Social Witness committees concerning work in the former Soviet Union and placements and training. She has a degree in Russian and Spanish from the University of Cambridge, and a doctorate (DPhil) from the University of Oxford on the politics of literature and identity in Abkhazia. Languages other than English: Russian, German, Spanish.

Jonathan Cohen Caucasus Programme Co-Director

Jonathan joined CR in December 1997 having served as Deputy Director of the Foundation on Inter-Ethnic Relations (FIER) in The Hague, working with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities. He co-manages CR's Caucasus programme, which focuses on the Georgia/Abkhazia conflict and is also chair of the Executive Steering Committee of a Consortium Initiative (CR, International Alert, LINKS and Catholic Relief Services) working on the Nagorny Karabakh conflict since 2003. Since joining CR he has been a board member of the DFID/CAF Partnerships in the Non-Profit Sector Programme for Russia, has acted as a consultant to United Nations Volunteers and the Heinrich Boell Foundation, and taught at the London School of Economics. He is also on the board of the Centre of Contemporary Central Asia and the Caucasus at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Previously, he worked as Former Soviet Union programme officer at International Alert in London, and as a consultant to the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR). He holds a BA from the University of Bristol and Masters degrees from the University of Oxford and the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University of London. Michelle Gallagher Events and Publications Officer

Michelle joined CR in February 2007, after working as the Marketing Coordinator for The Peace Foundation, New Zealand. She has previous experience in marketing research for social causes and roles within the commercial sector. Michelle has degrees in marketing and psychology from the University of Otago and a Masters degree in non-profit marketing from the University of Auckland in New Zealand.

Sofia Goinhas West Africa Programme Director

Sofia joined CR in 2008 as West Africa Programme Director, overseeing CR’s projects and work in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. Before that she worked as a Policy Adviser for Global Witness on the links between natural resources, conflict and post-conflict reconstruction, with a focus on Sierra Leone and Liberia. She has also worked to stop slavery and child labour in Brazil. She has a doctorate from the University of Surrey on participatory approaches to human rights promotion and protection and a Masters degree in International Relations and European Studies. She has trained as a journalist and speaks Portuguese, English and French.

Aaron Griffiths Accord Series Editor

Aaron Griffiths joined CR in August 2002. He previously worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex, within the Governance team. His primary interests are conflict and political development in Africa and other regions. He holds a MPhil in Development Studies from IDS and gained his first degree from the University of York.

Priscilla Hon Fundraising Coordinator

Priscilla joined CR in April 2008 after working as a fundraiser at Media Trust and YWCA England and Wales, both UK-based charities. Previously, she had worked as a project consultant in Indonesia and was a TV producer and reporter based in Singapore. She holds a Masters degree in International Politics from The School of African and Oriental Studies, University of London.

Melissa Jones Communications Officer

Melissa joined CR in 2003 after working as a print and documentary features journalist in the UK and Australia for many years, with a particular focus on human rights, security and environmental issues in the developing world. Melissa has a Masters degree in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights from the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex in the UK. Languages other than English: Spanish and French.

Mariama Konneh West Africa Programme Director (on extended leave in 2008)

Mariama Konneh joined CR in 2002 as West Africa Programme Officer and is now Programme Director, overseeing CR’s projects and work in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. Mariama previously worked as an Information Communications Officer for an African women’s NGO, ABANTU for Development, and at Praxis and Birkbeck College’s Widening Participation Project with refugee and asylum-seeking students in London. She has a degree in Politics and Development and an MSc in Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Languages spoken: Krio, French, German, Amharic.

Celia McKeon Programme Director, Policy, Communications and Comparative Learning

Celia joined CR in July 2001 and was Accord Series Programme Manager from February 2002 until December 2005. Previously she worked closely with local organizations in the Balkans for several years, serving as Programme Manager for the Balkans and Germany at Quaker Peace and Social Witness in London after a period in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a QPSW Representative in the former Yugoslavia. Before this she worked throughout Croatia for Suncokret, a local NGO, and did temporary work with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). She has a BA in Modern Languages (French and Linguistics) from the University of Oxford. Languages other than English: French, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and Spanish.

Rhona Miller Caucasus Programme Officer

Rhona joined CR in 2004 after gaining a Masters in International Studies from the University of Reading. She has a BA in Modern Languages from the University of Durham and from 2000-2002 worked in Moscow as a School Director for an English Language school chain. Before this she worked at the Royal Society, administering grants to support collaboration between scientists from the former Soviet Union and the UK, and at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where she arranged visits for official guests to the UK. Languages other than English: Russian, French and German.

Irene Musoke Finance Officer

Irene joined CR in March 2006 after working as a Finance Assistant at Disability Alliance. Before that she worked with a health promotion organization, Innovative Vision Organisation (IVO), as a Finance Assistant, and trained with Datta Chartered Accountants. Irene also volunteers for the Ethiopian Community Centre in the UK (ECCUK) in its HIV awareness programme. She is a qualified Accounting Technician (AAT) and is studying to become an Association of Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA).

David Orchant Caucasus Programme Assistant

David joined CR in January 2007 after working as an English Language Teacher in Yekaterinberg, Russia. He has a degree from the University of Leeds in Economics and Russian. He has worked in a variety of administrative and support roles within the National Health Service, the commercial sector and has also taught music in primary and secondary schools in the West Yorkshire Region. Languages other than English: Russian.

Adrian Platt Administrative Officer

Adrian joined CR in April 2007 after working in various campaigns roles at Christian Aid and the Howard League for Penal Reform and running a Fair Trade Café. He studied Peace & Development Studies at the University of Bradford. He also volunteers for the Food Chain, a London-based HIV/Aids charity, as a navigator and supervisor. Languages other than English: Spanish.

Nyeko Caesar Poblicks Uganda Programme Programme Manager

Caesar previously worked as Project Officer for the northern Ugandan diaspora peace initiative Kacoke Madit between 1999 and August 2005. Before this he was Programme Coordinator for Hand in Hand Refugee and Homeless Support Group in the London Borough of Newham, and published a book, The Quest for Peaceful Coexistence in Uganda. Caesar has a BA in Accounting and Finance and trained with the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountant (ACCA) in Advanced Project Management. He also has a postgraduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution Skills from Lancaster University. Languages other than English: Swahili and Lwo.

Kushma Ram Operations Manager

Kushma joined CR in September 2002, having worked and lived in several countries. Her main areas of work have been development, gender, labour and politics, with governmental but mostly non-governmental organizations. She has served organizations with a predominately local agenda as well as those with a global focus and outreach. She previously worked for DAWN, a South feminist research network, helping coordinate the network's activities across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Pacific and Latin America. Kushma has a BA in Education from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji, and a Masters degree in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague. She has also had training in Peace Studies from the European Peace University in Schlaining, Austria and Hindi language from Delhi, India. Languages other than English: Hindi.

Kennedy Tumutegyereize Uganda Sudan borders Programme Director

Kennedy joined CR in October 2007 after working as a conflict specialist with USAID where he worked in the LRA-affected regions of Uganda, as well as on pastoral conflicts and dealing with the proliferation of small arms and light weapons. Before this he worked as Programme Coordinator with DANIDA where he was a focal person for interventions in Karamoja, and in 2001-2002 he helped facilitate the peace talks between the Government of Uganda and the Uganda National Rescue Front II. He also has experience of helping strengthen the organizational capacities of NGOs and networks in conflict-affected regions and has worked as a policy and research officer for the Uganda Debt Network. He holds an MA in Conflict Resolution from the University of Bradford and an MSc in Agricultural Economics from Makerere University, Kampala.

Juliet Williams Finance Manager

Before joining CR in December 1999, Juliet worked for 10 years as Finance Administrator at a doctors' group practice. She is trained in business accounting and office management, and also serves on the board of Positively Women, a charity that provides peer support and advocacy for women in London.
