Vanessa joined CR in May 2008 while completing her Masters in Conflict and Dispute Resolution at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). Before this Vanessa worked for the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) in Geneva, Switzerland, as an assistant to the director of operations, assisting in programmes for refugees, internally displaced persons and migrants. Laurence Broers Caucasus

Laurence joined CR as Projects Manager for the Caucasus programme in November 2008. Before this he worked for two-and-half years at Amnesty International as a researcher on Armenia and Azerbaijan. In 2006 Laurence was issue editor for our Accord publication on the Nagorny Karabakh peace process. He has also previously published articles in scholarly journals relating to themes of ethnicity, democratization and conflict in the South Caucasus and worked as one of the editors of the first comprehensive Georgian-English dictionary to be published since Georgian independence. Laurence completed his doctoral studies on the post-Soviet republic of Georgia in 2004 and has participated in numerous NGO projects in Georgia. He is fluent in Russian, Georgian, Spanish and French.
Andy Carl Executive Director

Andy co-founded CR in 1995 with David Lord and now heads the organization. He led the development of CR’s programme work in Fiji and Bougainville/PNG and in northern Uganda, Somaliland and Sri Lanka, and established CR’s Accord publication series. Before this he worked for International Alert (London) from 1989-94 as its original programme staff on peace initiatives in Southern Africa, Europe, Liberia, the Philippines, Colombia, Iraqi-Kurdistan and elsewhere. Before that, he was national coordinator of the Central America Human Rights Committee, UK (1986-89). He has degrees in literature from the University of California at Berkeley (BA) and Trinity College, Dublin (MPhil). Andy represents CR in various national and international policy forums on conflict transformation practice, acts as a resource person for CR’s programmes and develops new areas of work.
Rachel Clogg Caucasus

Rachel joined CR full time in July 2001, after working since 1999 as a Caucasus programme associate. Prior to this she held the Max Hayward Research Fellowship at St.Antony's College, Oxford (2000-2001) and worked as a lecturer in Russian at the University of North Wales, Bangor. For several years Rachel worked as a part-time volunteer/consultant for local and international organizations in the Caucasus. She has served on Quaker Peace and Social Witness committees concerning work in the former Soviet Union and placements and training. She has a degree in Russian and Spanish from the University of Cambridge, and a doctorate (DPhil) from the University of Oxford on the politics of literature and identity in Abkhazia. Jonathan Cohen, Director

Jonathan joined CR in December 1997 and developed the Caucasus programme. In September 2008 he became Director of Programmes overseeing the regional programmes. Previously he was deputy director of the Foundation on Inter-Ethnic Relations in The Hague, working with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities. Before that he worked for International Alert and the Peace Research Institute Oslo. He has been a board member of the DFID/CAF Partnerships in the Non-Profit Sector Programme for Russia; acted as a consultant to United Nations Volunteers, the Heinrich Boell Foundation, the Berghof Foundation and taught at the London School of Economics. He has degrees from the universities of Bristol, London and Oxford. Languages other than English: Russian.
Mary Dobbing Programme Officer

Mary joined CR in September 2009 on a one-year placement with the Quaker Peace & Social Witnesses Peaceworker scheme and will be working with our West Africa programme and the Policy and Comparative Learning team. She is a dedicated peace campaigner with a special interest in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In 2009 she completed a Masters in Conflict Resolution at the University of Bradford and before that worked in various positions, most recently as a Senior Lecturer in Chinese medicine and an acupuncture practitioner. She has also worked in local government and the voluntary sector, including as principle welfare rights officer for the London Borough of Lewisham and Citizens Advice Bureau manager.
Elizabeth Drew Research and Publications Officer

Elizabeth joined CR in March 2009 as Research and Publications Officer, working on the Accord series, policy and the comparative learning project. Before that she worked as a programme officer in the UK Department for International Development (DFID)’s Conflict Policy team and as a policy assistant in DFID’s Climate Change Cluster. Before that she spent a year in Mozambique working with VETAID to build the capacities of local organizations collaborating on a food security project. She has a Masters in International Relations from Cambridge University and a BA in English from King’s College, London. Languages other than English: Portuguese, French, Welsh.

Elena joined CR in September 2009. She previously worked as a PR Officer and Campaign Coordinator with Amnesty International in Moscow and as a Project Assistant with Saferworld in London, where she supported local partner organizations in Russia in their activities on small arms control. She holds a BA in Philosophy and Theology, as well as two Masters degrees in Human Rights and in Political Science. Languages other than English: Russian.
Sofia Goinhas West

Sofia joined CR in 2008 as West Africa Programme Director, overseeing CR’s projects and work in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. Before that she worked as a policy adviser for Global Witness on the links between natural resources, conflict and post-conflict reconstruction, with a focus on Sierra Leone and Liberia. She has also worked to stop slavery and child labour in Brazil. She has a doctorate from the University of Surrey on participatory approaches to human rights promotion and protection and a Masters degree in International Relations and European Studies. She trained as a journalist and speaks Portuguese, English and French.

Sophie Haspeslagh Policy Analyst

Sophie joined CR in February 2010. She previously managed the advocacy platform of leading British and Irish non-governmental organizations with programmes in Colombia, ABColombia. Before that Sophie worked for the United Nations Development Programme in Algeria on governance and human rights issues. She also worked as an early warning consultant for the World Food Programme in Rome and for the International Crisis Group in Colombia and Brussels. Sophie holds a Masters degree in International Relations and International Economics with a specialization in Conflict Management from the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University in the USA, and a BSc in Politics from the University of Bristol, UK. Kristian joined CR full time in June 2009. His main area of responsibility is the Comparative Learning Project, which focuses on Colombia and the Philippines. He earned a Masters degree in International Peacebuilding from the Kroc Institute, University of Notre Dame, in May 2009. Previously he worked for seven years as Program Director of the School for a Culture of Peace, Autonomous University of Barcelona, supporting peace processes and conducting track-two diplomacy in Colombia, Philippines, Western Sahara, Basque Country and elsewhere. He also holds a degree in Agriculture Engineering and a Diploma in Peace Culture. Kristian has long been active in Catalan grassroots environmental and development organizations. Rhona joined CR in 2004 after gaining a Masters in International Studies from the University of Reading. She has a BA in Modern Languages from the University of Durham and from 2000-2002 worked in Moscow as a school director for an English Language school chain. Before this she worked at the Royal Society, administering grants to support collaboration between scientists from the former Soviet Union and the UK, and at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where she arranged visits for official guests to the UK. Cynthia joined CR in February 2009. She is an expert in displacement and Middle East issues, with a background in international law, languages and conflict resolution. Cynthia has worked with the French Red Cross as Refugee-Migrants service coordinator, as a Middle East desk officer at the IFRC and for the Reach Out Project on refugee protection. As country director of Danish Refugee Council in Lebanon, she started the agency's work on undocumented Palestinian refugees; recent assignments before joining CR include setting up the Centre Nassim for the rehabilitation of victims of torture in Beirut and teaching at the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (San Remo) as refugee law course director. She is fluent in French, English, Greek, Spanish and Arabic.

Adrian joined CR in April 2007 after working in various campaigns roles at Christian Aid and the Howard League for Penal Reform and running a Fair Trade Café. He studied Peace & Development Studies at the University of Bradford. He also volunteers as a supervisor and serves as a trustee for the Food Chain, a London-based HIV/Aids and nutrition charity. Caesar previously worked as project officer for the northern Ugandan diaspora peace initiative Kacoke Madit between 1999 and August 2005. Before this he was programme coordinator for Hand in Hand Refugee and Homeless Support Group in the London Borough of Newham, and published a book, The Quest for Peaceful Coexistence in Uganda. Caesar has a BA in Accounting and Finance and trained with the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountant (ACCA) in Advanced Project Management. He also has a postgraduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution Skills from Lancaster University. Languages other than English: Swahili and Lwo.

Alexander joined CR in August 2008 as Accord Series Editor. Before this he was a research fellow in the international programme at the Institute for Public Policy Research. He worked as specialist adviser to the House of Lords European Union (EU) Select Committee in its inquiry into the EU Strategy for Africa, before which he was head of the Peace and Security Programme at the United Nations Association-UK. He has also been an associate fellow in the International Security Programme at Chatham House.

Christopher joined CR in June 2009. He previously was head of the Europe group of Bread for the World in Germany for two years, overseeing development projects in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Before that he worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for four years and was head of the ICRC offices in Gulu (Uganda) and Khasavyurt (Russian Federation). As ICRC delegate based in Tbilisi (Georgia) he was among other things involved in work on people missing in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. Christopher holds a degree in Post-Communist Studies (MA) of Leeds University, and a degree in Religious Studies & Slavonic Studies (MA) of Tuebingen University. Mira joined CR in October 2008 after more than five years working in the South Caucasus. Most recently she was a consultant for the humanitarian organization Geneva Call to engage with policymakers in Abkhazia, Nagorny Karabakh and South Ossetia in drawing up policies on anti-personnel mines. Before this she worked in the Tbilisi-based South Caucasus Regional Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation, where she ran the Women’s Empowerment and Gender Democracy programme, and managed projects on conflict transformation, civic participation and minority rights. Mira holds a Master’s degree in English language and literature, Slavic studies and Philosophy from the University of Cologne, Germany. Kennedy joined CR in October 2007 after working as a conflict specialist with USAID where he worked in the LRA-affected regions of Uganda, as well as on pastoral conflicts and the proliferation of small arms and light weapons. Before this he worked as programme coordinator with DANIDA where he was a focal person for interventions in Karamoja, and in 2001-2002 he helped facilitate the peace talks between the Ugandan government and the Uganda National Rescue Front II. He also has experience of helping strengthen organizational capacities of NGOs and networks in conflict-affected regions and has worked as a policy and research officer for the Uganda Debt Network. He holds an MA in Conflict Resolution from the University of Bradford and an MSc in Agricultural Economics from Makerere University, Kampala.
Juliet Williams Finance Manager

Before joining CR in December 1999, Juliet worked for 10 years as a finance administrator at a doctors' group practice. She is trained in business accounting and office management, and also serves on the board of Positively Women, a charity that provides peer support and advocacy for women in London.
