About
Tom Barton
Tom joined Conciliation Resources in July 2022 as a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Advisor. He facilitates the development of our peace practice by providing specialist, technical advice and support to programme teams and partner organisations on the design and application of complexity-aware and gender-sensitive MEL approaches in peacebuilding work, and through support to cross-organisational Outcome Harvesting. His work supports Conciliation Resources to structure learning into peacebuilding design and to use MEL data on achievements and challenges to inform adaptations to programmes and strategies as well as research, advocacy and communications.
Before joining Conciliation Resources, Tom worked in the MEL division of an international development consulting firm where he supported the design and management of multi-sectoral and strategic independent evaluation assignments for the European Commission, DFID/FCDO and the World Food Programme, primarily in humanitarian-development-peace nexus contexts including Sudan, Turkey, South Sudan, Palestine, Syria and Kenya. Previously, he was a Project Officer for a UK-based INGO developing inclusive community projects to improve outcomes for disabled children and young people in East Africa, and a volunteer on a WASH project in Nicaragua. He holds an MA from the University of Exeter in Conflict, Security and Development for which he conducted research and analysis on peacebuilding initiatives in Kyrgyzstan and transitional justice processes in Bangladesh.
