Ali Hassan Fahimi

Hassan joined Conciliation Resources as a Project Manager, South Asia (Afghanistan) in July 2021. He is responsible for the coordination of CR’s projects’ implementation in Afghanistan, working closely with the local consultants and partners. 

Hassan is an international development professional with expertise in gender issues, women’s leadership and political participation, particularly the Women, Peace and Security agenda. He has worked for over 12 years with national and international organizations in Afghanistan, including the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit. In 2009, he joined the Women, Peace and Governance Unit of UNIFEM/UN Women Afghanistan, where he managed different projects in collaboration with the Afghan government and civil society organizations to enhance women’s leadership and inclusion in politics and governance. 

From 2013 to 2017, he was the deputy programme manager for the Political and Economic Empowerment Programme of UN Women Afghanistan; most of this time he served as the Officer-in-Charge of this programme, strengthening women’s role in elections, peace, governance and legislation. He was the Acting Programme Manager for the Women, Peace and Security pillar of UNW from January to October 2018. He holds a BA in Public-Private Law and an MA in Public International Law from Kabul. Through the global Rotary Peace Fellowship programme, he earned his second MA in Peace, Conflict and Development from the University of Bradford UK.
