This is a Power Point presentation by Conciliation Resources given at the National Defense College of the Philippines.  The slides give an overview of the main issues in conflict termination.

Using statistics and examples from around the world, the slides give some background information about protracted conflicts and peace processes.

The presentation then explores some positive and negative trends in this field (such as fewer armed conflicts overall but instances of conflict recurrence).  The challenge is achieving 'good quality' peace processes.

There is also a need to re-assess some assumptions - are 'weak' rebels really without political power and will a peace agreement actually bring about peace? Finally, some welcome new concepts are outlined.
