This report presents research carried out by Conciliation Resources and Quaker Peace & Social Witness into the decisions of middle-ranking Lord's Resistance Army commanders to return home.

The paper identifies three main factors which influence individuals when making their choices and it stresses the role played by communications (through radio but also by way of telephone and letters with families and communities).  It also makes recommendations about what can be done to encourage the returning home process as part of the wider aim of resolving conflict in northern Uganda.
