This policy brief from Conciliation Resources presents the findings of its assessment of the UK's conflict approaches.

It explains that gaps (conceptual, policy, institutional and practice) exist in current response strategies and also that peace processes can be improved.  For example, they should deal with root grievances.

Intervention is not enough and the UK should recognise that peaceful resolutions will help it to achieve its own goals.  For example, it notes that the costs of diplomacy are lower than those of military  action.

Recommendations include developing a coherent concept of effective peace processes and using influence in multilateral organisations to champion diplomacy.
