Conciliation Resources is working hand-in-hand with local civil society organisations in areas of Congo, the Central African Republic and South Sudan where communities still live in fear of attack by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). A lasting solution to the LRA problem can only be achieved if policy makers take into account the insights and concerns of local civil society.

We are one of 59 Congolese and international groups to have jointly sent a letter to Martin Kobler, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Congo and head of the UN peacekeeping mission there (MONUSCO) providing concrete recommendations on how peacekeepers deployed in LRA-affected zones can better protect civilians. Critically, by listening to and sharing information with communities, the UN stands a much better chance of understanding the multiple threats civilians face and of being able to respond more effectively.
