Youth aspirations for peace and security
In December 2015, the United Nations Security Council adopted UNSCR 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security. The resolution was the first to recognise the important role young people can play in preventing conflicts, and sustaining peace. Conciliation Resources was invited by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to contribute to the Progress Report on UNSCR 2250. Between July and September 2017, we conducted participatory research with 494 young people living in Afghanistan, Jammu and Kashmir, South Sudan, the Georgian-Abkhaz context, and among youth of the Ogaden diaspora living in the United Kingdom.

Bringing in the margins, Peacebuilding and transition in borderlands
This report summarises discussions from a workshop to explore sub-state political settlements in conflict-affected borderlands and the possibilities for more effective and inclusive peacebuilding interventions. It looks at four key themes: concepts of borderlands, inclusion and political settlement; the particular types of violence, (in)security, governance and authority that emerge in borderlands; the challenges of working in borderlands, and innovative methods and tools to better engage with their dynamics; and peacebuilding responses and practice in borderland spaces.

Unable to stay in place
Following the withdrawal of African Union forces from areas affected by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), armed group activities have intensified in the area. Rising insecurity has complicated freedom of movement and agricultural practices. This has constrained land access and ownership which uniquely impacts women and other socially excluded groups. This policy brief provides a set of recommendations to increase security and land access and ownership among women and marginalised groups.
