This report by Conciliation Resources summarises discussions at a seminar it organised about the Sierra Leone peace process.  The roles of civil society organisations and the international community in peacemaking after the Lomé agreement were considered in particular.

Participants debated the importance of including local actors in consultations to address the underlying causes of war.  Issues such as the perceived preoccupation with Freetown at the expense of other regions and the importance of women's organisations in peacebuilding were also explored.

Concerns about international interventions included perceived partiality and unclear peacekeeping mandates.  The UN Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) and the United Kingdom were discussed in particular.
