This is a Power Point presentation on protracted peace processes given by Kristian Herbolzheimer of Conciliation Resources in Manila.

The slides give an overview of relevant situations around the world and also the different impacts of civil society organisations.  Some trends and conceptual developments are then identified.

Lessons can be learned from past peacebuilding efforts.  For example, assumptions that negotiations must be conducted by an elite around a table can be challenged.  In every conflict there are many layers and actors and hence there are a variety of ways to approach conflict termination.

Some open questions are asked at the end, such as what are the invisible layers of power and conflict?
