In this study, Mareike Schomerus of Conciliation Resources focuses on how armed conflicts involving the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and other armed groups have affected communities living in, what was known at that time of this publication as, Sudan (now South Sudan), along the Ugandan border.

The paper documents local people's views from Eastern and Central Equatoria and explores crucial issues such as civilian security and the need for the development of infrastructure, ways of dealing with the past and reintegration of the LRA.

It also highlights various cross-border issues and the importance of increased donor and agency attention.
