This is the third edition of Peace, security and development update, part of the Strengthening Citizens’ Security pilot project.

This edition is focused on the role of women in Sierra Leone’s security sector.  Women constitute an important segment of the country’s population, with a crucial role in maintaining peace and democracy.  Women have been poorly represented prior to, throughout and after the nation’s decade-long war.

Most of the articles in this issue have been written by women who are practitioners in the security sector or civil society activists.
