This talk was given at Conciliation Resources by Dr Dennis Bright, Commissioner at Commission for the Consolidation of Peace (CCP), in light of the events of May 2000 in Sierra Leone, which saw peacekeepers taken hostage and peace demonstrators murdered.

Dr Bright explains why he thinks Foday Sankoh, leader of the Revolutionary United Front, should have a fair trial.  He also comments on what the problems in the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration process were and explains why he considers the appointment of an interim government to be unlikely.

The speech ends with an expression of hope for sustainable democracy and for the preservation of the spirit of the Lome peace agreement.  He also discusses the work of CCP.
