This article by Conciliation Resources, written with the support of others, explores in detail the plight of women and girls in Sierra Leone.

Low literacy combined with family responsibilities means women are disproportionately affected by the country's economic decline.  Meanwhile war tactics targeting females and high refugee numbers paint a bleak picture of their experiences of civil war.  The sad reality is that this vulnerable group have no voice to influence change.

The article recommends vital research into the experiences of rural women and of ex-Revolutionary United Front women in Sierra Leone so that change can be initiated.
