This summary report by Conciliation Resources outlines discussions at the sub-regional conference on civil society and security cooperation which it helped to organise in Sierra Leone.

Both security policymakers and community representatives of the Mano River Union (MRU) addressed the key challenges for policies.  They also agreed a statement with recommendations of actions for (1) the MRU (2) the governments of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone and (3) civil society representatives, in order to facilitate cooperation between civil society and the security sector.

Participants also discussed cross-border trading, corruption and improving information exchanges and trust.  Follow-up activities included increasing ties with various cross-border initiatives.
