This joint report from the Department for International Development, Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Ministry of Defence sets out the government's strategy in respect of conflicts overseas.

In light of the Arab Spring, part one of the document explains why stability matters to the UK.  For example, it is important in terms of national interests.

Part two sets out the approach to be taken using the range of resources available to the UK.  This consists of: 'early warning' to improve the ability to anticipate instability; 'rapid crisis prevention and response' to stop troubles spreading; and 'investing in upstream prevention' with an emphasis on building legitimate institutions.
