Public participation in peacemaking

Negotiations to end wars are more than a means to stop the fighting. They offer a chance to agree new political, economic and constitutional arrangements that can tackle the root causes of a conflict and thus help forge lasting peace.

Our updated Accord policy brief Public participation in peacemaking (November 2009) argues for more inclusive and democratic peacemaking that goes beyond ‘elite’ pacts between governments and armed groups.
