Selected Texts from the 1994-5 Negotiations Process

These pages reproduce excerpts from letters, exchanged between representatives of the Sri Lankan government the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)

LTTE Political Head Office
Jaffna
8 February 1995

Col. Anuruddha Ratwatte
Deputy Minister of Defence
Sri Lanka

Dear Col. Ratwatte

May I bring to your notice of a serious incidence occurred at Kalkuda, Batticaloa, on the 23 January, in which seven LTTE cadres were arrested along with their weapons, walkie-talkie and a boat. The LTTE cadres were latter released but their weapons, walkie set and the boat are still in the custody of the security forces. Several attempts have been made to regain the weapons but the field commander insists that he did not receive any reply from the higher authorities. We have also requested Brigadier Peiris, who visited Jaffna recently, to secure the weapons as early as possible.

Please be kind enough to instruct the field commander to hand over the weapons, walkie-talkie and the boat to the LTTE area leader at your earliest convenience.

Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,

Mr. S. P. Tamilselvan
Leader, Political Section, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
