Events In February 2002 an international joint analysis workshop brought together people working in conflict transformation to exchange ideas and practical experiences of promoting mechanisms for the public to participate in peace processes. Case studies from Colombia, Guatemala, Mali, Northern Ireland, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Somalia and South Africa gave participants an opportunity to learn from experiences elsewhere. A workshop report documented the experiences, issues and lessons discussed during the event and formed the basis for the publication Owning the process: public participation in peacemaking (Accord issue 13, 2002). Issue editor Catherine Barnes also gave presentations at George Mason University, the United States Institute of Peace and the World Bank, Washington, DC. Since then, Conciliation Resources staff and Catherine Barnes have presented the publication’s findings in workshops, training seminars and public forums around the world, including in Colombia, Israel-Palestine, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.
