The missing link SINN FÉIN LEADERSHIP: INDIVIDUAL INSTRUCTIONS (x2) You are committed to the Belfast Agreement because the future of the Party depends on stability. If the IRA should return to violence you know that you will lose electoral support. You have said that you believe in decommissioning of weapons but your movement’s military history and traditions would mean that there would have to be a huge change in thinking. You are suspicious of the British Government and unionists and would never try to persuade the IRA to decommission if it is not ready to do so. At the same time you know that many members of the IRA would refuse to give up their weapons and that the movement would split. You want to avoid that at all costs. One of you is a government minister in the new administration. You can make direct contact with the IRA without sending a message through the post office.
