Sharing peacemaking lessons
Conciliation Resources believes that comparative information on peace processes is an essential resource for effective peacemaking.
Four years ago we began a new ‘comparative learning’ project to help improve understanding about peace processes. Working in partnership with civil society organizations in Colombia and the Philippines we have:
- presented and discussed findings from various Accord publications with people involved in these peace processes
- shared insights and learned from their responses to further develop themes and policy recommendations rooted in practical experience
- reflected on how facilitating comparative learning can work, and drawn out new thinking on cross-cutting issues
- challenged policymakers with alternative and practice-based viewpoints on conflicts and peacemaking
Workshops in Colombia and the Philippines have so far covered the following topics:
- engaging armed groups
- third party involvement in peace processes
- frameworks for conflict resolution
We have also produced translations of relevant Accord publications and cases studies, along with a series of reflections papers on these themes.
In 2009 our partners identified 'resuming peace processes: looking for new opportunities' as an area for joint research and activities. Workshops and meetings were held in the Philippines and Colombia in July and August 2009.
