Events and partners
Two UK launch events for the publication From military peace to social justice? The Angolan peace process (Accord issue 15) were held in October 2004 in collaboration with the British Angola Forum and Chatham House (the Royal Institute of International Affairs):
- a policy round table to discuss the relevance of Angola’s experiences for other African conflicts
- a public launch to bring the lessons emerging from the publication to a wider audience
Speakers included Accord issue editor Guus Meijer and authors Jean-Michel Mabeko-Tali and Filomeno Vieira Lopes, along with Alex Vines, head of the Africa Programme at Chatham House. Both events were chaired by Professor David Birmingham, board member of the British Angola Forum.
A launch seminar in Luanda, Angola with project partners Chà de Caxinde was supported by Carlos Figueiredo and the Observatório Político Social de Angola (OPSA). Radio and television interviews allowed the project lessons to be widely broadcast to Angolans.
You can read a review of the publication by José Luis Mendonça, 'Nós, angolanos, as velhíssimas crianças do mundo'.
