This policy brief summarises Conciliation Resources’ Accord publication 15 From military peace to social justice? The Angolan peace process.

It outlines lessons to be learned from past peace initiatives in Angola and discusses the disadvantages of the 'one bullet solution' following the death of UNITA leader Savimbi.  It suggests that disregard for the Angolan population was an important reason for the failure of the previous peace process.

The brief explores the country's challenges for successful post-conflict reconstruction.  These include: continued fighting in Cabinda; more civil society participation, particularly of women; and progressing disarmament and reintegration.
