We need more powerful women that can work for peace and security. Tatiana Bengue

Once infamous for their widespread atrocities in Uganda, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) is now scattered among the border regions of South Sudan, the Central African Republic (CAR) and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Largely unreached by government and security forces, the remote regions provide the perfect terrain for the group’s survival.

Since 2008, an estimated 7,600 people were abducted by the LRA in these three countries alone – many were women. *

Tatiana Bengue and Susan Thomas Perembata have both founded organisations to help women and children who escape from the LRA, return and reintegrate into their communities.

Conciliation Resources has been supporting them, and other women civil society leaders from East and Central Africa, to gain sills, advice, ideas and networks to increase their own, and their organisations’, influence and voice.
