Vera Grabe, former guerrilla and co-founder of the 19 April Movement (M-19), describes the peace processes that the M-19 and three other groups took part in. She analyses the events and circumstances that led to the decision by the M-19 to engage in talks with the government and their ensuing participation in the Constituent Assembly for the creation of new Constitution. She concludes that despite its shortcomings the Constitution at that time marked a new point of departure and that the M-19’s decision to demobilise was not surrender but a courageous decision to pursue their goals by democratic means.
