Staff and consultants in Sierra Leone

Our West Africa Programme employs programme and logistics staff plus support workers and consultants, who work from our offices in Bo, Kenema and Freetown.

In memory of our colleague Sahr Johnbull, 32, who sadly passed away in March 2008. Originally from Kono district, Sierra Leone, he had worked in CR’s Freetown office for the past seven years and was Assistant Finance and Administrative Officer. He was a valued and much-loved member of our Sierra Leonean team and will be greatly missed. We offer our deepest sympathies to his wife Isata and two children Sahr and Fatmata.

Rosalind Hanson-Alp, West Africa Programme Coordinator, Freetown
Rosalind joined CR's office in Sierra Leone in May 2007. She will be heading project implementation in Sierra Leone and the sub-region. She has worked as a consultant (particularly Care and the BBC), and for CR, managing programmes in Sierra Leone and setting up her own projects. Rosalind has been mainly living or closely involved in Sierra Leone for the past 16 years.

Marion Gorvie, Programme Officer South, Bo, Sierra Leone
Marion Gorvie joined CR in September 2003 and supervises our youth activities and project partnerships in Bo and Pujehun districts. She has more than 20 years experience of working with young people: as a deputy headmaster and women’s desk officer at the United Brethren in Christ Church School in Bo, and as a master trainer for Management Systems International (MSI), including its Youth Reintegration Training and Education for Peace program for ex-combatants and non-combatants across Sierra Leone, and its Nation Building Programme. Marion has a Higher Teachers Certificate (HTC) from Bunumbu Teachers College for Primary School and a diploma in women’s leadership from Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation in Kitwe, Zambia. Languages spoken: English, Mende and Krio.

Boima Morie Kpuagor, Programme Officer East, Kenema, Sierra Leone
Boima joined CR in 2004. He manages the youth project in Kenema. Boima has extensive experience in coordinating and supervising community family planning projects as a medical supervisor and relief team member with the Red Cross during the war, including in displaced camps. He also worked as a supervisor with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) for six years, focusing on young people and HIV/AIDS through the Information Education and Communication programme, and reproductive health. Boima is a qualified community health nurse with postgraduate qualifications in primary and public health, and trained in Uganda, Guinea, the USA and Asia. Languages spoken: English, Mende, and Krio.

Violet Lenger-Fofanah, Senior Finance and Admin Officer, Freetown
Violet joined CR in September 2001 after eight years as finance officer for the Young Men Christian’s Association (YMCA) and a private company Electro Tech Ltd. She provides financial and administrative support to CR’s West Africa field operations, with specific responsibility for financial relations with project partners. She is currently developing her financial skills by studying for the CAT (Certified Accounting Technician) to become a qualified chartered accountant. Languages spoken: English, Mende and Krio.

Mr Siladee Turay, Project Officer, Strengthening Citizen's Security project, Kenema Office
Mr Siladee Turay joined CR's office in Kenema in April 2007 and will work on the Strengthening Citizen's Security project. Mr Siladee previously worked on CR's Conflict Transformation training for the youth project in Kenema. He has extensive experience of working in communities on peace and conflict issues including trauma healing.

Patricia Bindi, Programme Assistant, Bo
Patricia joined CR in November 2003. She ensures the smooth running of the Bo office’s administrative systems and assists the programme officer on project supervision with partners. She previously worked for the Archdiocesan Development Organization (ADDO) as social worker in Jembe Refugee Camp. Patricia holds certificates in business and administration from the London Institute of Commercial Management (LCM). Languages: English, Mende and Krio.

Muctarr provides technical and administrative support to the Bo office including mail delivery and logistics.

Abdulai Koroma, Driver, Freetown
Abdulai joined CR in July 2003. He has worked as a professional driver in the private and commercial sector employment for over 30 years, including for the managing director of the Aureol Tobacco Company for 11 years and the National Petroleum Company for nine years. Languages spoken: Temne and Krio.

Martina Gaebler, Intern, Freetown

Martina joined the Freetown office in November 2007 after completing her Masters degree in ‘International Development: Poverty Conflict and Reconstruction’ at the University of Manchester, UK in September 2007. She has a BA in International Relations from the University of Dresden, Germany and has studied and worked in France, Mexico and Venezuela. Languages spoken: English, French, German, Spanish.
